"Doctor, Is My End In Sight?" is a humorous look at the physicians' purview when plain folks participate in self-diagnosis.

1. Name three or more things, scenarios, or ideas that come to mind from Dr. Vance's comments in this book. Be specific on details or ideas.
I thought it was hilarious that a doctor accepted as ham in exchange for delivering a baby.  That just seems so unbelievable.  I also thought the bathroom detail was pretty interesting.  He didn’t leave much to the imagination.  I found my self making gagging noises as I read, pretty gross.  I liked when the man called his neck/larynx a goozle.

2. Did Dr. Vance differ from other doctors, from doctor's you have worked with, in the way he listened to patients? Explain.
It seems that physicians that I have been encountered with do not listen as much.  They typically seem in a hurry to get out of the room and into the next.  They also rely on various test results for diagnoses instead of listening to the patient.  If you can get over the language barrier what the patient (especially southern) is trying to tell you, the answer is there just as Dr.  Vance proved.
3.  Many folks, especially folks not from this area, that Dr. Vance condescends or disrespects the folks he discusses in this book.  Tell, in detail, why you agree or disagree with this opinion.
I do not think that he is condescending in any way.  I actually think that this book is a wonderful tool that should be utilized by all healthcare workers in this area.  Although we find humor in some of the stories, I do not think that they were intended to make fun of the patient.
4.  If you had a chance to tell Dr. Vance's family ONE observation you gathered from the reading of this book, what would that observation be?

I would tell them what a phenomenal doctor he seemed to be.  He listened to what the patient had to say and he always did what he could to treat them.  It especially shows how caring of a physician he was to make house calls at all hours of the night.  He became a doctor for the right reasons….. to help patients at any rate.
